September 30, 2024
Danna Diaz, a Business Administration major with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship and a minor in Data Science, is on track to graduate from Chapman University in 2026. From the moment she stepped on campus, Danna embraced the entrepreneurial culture fostered at the Argyros College of Business and Economics. “Chapman has been an incredible experience with countless opportunities and support,” she shares.
An Entrepreneurial Spirit from the Start
Danna’s involvement in several clubs and organizations showcases her drive to develop diverse skills. As a member of Alpha Chi Omega, the CEO Club, Floor 13 Dance Team, and the Blue-Sky Club, she has immersed herself in leadership, creativity, and innovation.
Her decision to choose Chapman was fueled by the extensive resources available to entrepreneurs through the Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics. “I chose Chapman and the Argyros College of Business because of the support and guidance for entrepreneurs and startups at the Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship,” Danna explains.
Academic Experiences
Among her academic pursuits, Danna found her Data Analytics class with Professor Tim Frenzel to be especially impactful. The hands-on nature of the course allowed her to apply data-driven insights to real-world situations, which has been directly applicable to her entrepreneurial ventures. “The professor motivates students to analyze real-world data and create a business presentation based on our results. This has helped me use data analytics with my own career and businesses,” she notes. The class even inspired her to pursue a minor in Data Science, broadening her skillset for the business world.
Founding and Growing a Business
In addition to her academic achievements, Danna is also the founder of Cosmic Ice Shaved Ice Catering Services, a company she started during her freshman year. Her vision was clear: to provide exceptional customer service while delivering a delicious treat.
As her business grew, so did her entrepreneurial resume. Recently, Danna joined Java Road Coffee as a regional manager, and she previously interned at Symbiotic Systems as a business development intern, where she optimized sales materials and maintained the company’s website.
Reflecting on her journey, Danna emphasizes the importance of early action and building strong networks. “I would recommend getting started as early as possible and grow connections. Focus on researching and applying to anything you find interesting, or find an opportunity to develop a startup.”
Looking Toward the Future
Danna has big dreams for her future. She hopes to lead a team of passionate individuals who share her drive for innovation and entrepreneurship. “In the future, I hope to grow my business into an interactive entertainment company with different chains offered to all ages and communities,” she says.
Balancing the demands of school, business, and social life has been a challenge, but Danna has steadily improved her time management and communication skills. She also leaves advice for other aspiring entrepreneurs: “Focus on building meaningful relationships with professors, peers, and professionals in your desired field. Simultaneously, always be proactive in seeking out projects, internships, or extracurricular activities that align with your goals.”
