Improving Lives With Soap – From Health 2 Humanity
April 14, 2014
We’ve calculated a formula that will improve the lives of millions of people around the world. We are Max Wysong, Ajay Dhameja, Daniel Cruz and John Cefalu from the Argyros School of Business and Economics at Chapman University.
We decided to start with something basic. Something, which we use several times a day however, over 2.4 billion people do not share the same luxury. During the cold weekend nights of September we huddled together in the corner of a small garage and began making soap. After two days of constant mixing, pouring and checking, our first batch of all-natural, high quality soap was complete.
We will not be stopping there! We’ve launched a company called Health 2 Humanity that allows us to help millions of people across the world. Personal hygiene health, mental health (education) and physical health (exercise and sports) will be our focus.
We are selling our product and for every hygiene product that is purchased, we will be providing resources and business training to underprivileged youth all over the world in developing countries to make and sell their own hygiene products. This will truly focus on their own self-sustainability, lifting their town, village, or family out of poverty. On top of this training, purchases also provide each child in the orphanage soap for the rest of his or her time in the orphanage.
I know that we wouldn’t have been able to launch Health 2 Humanity without the Argyros School. Not only have we made valuable connections with professors, the dean, and staff members, but we’ve experienced something unlike any other school. We’ve experienced that all the staff and faculty is extremely personable and willing to help us however they can. I know that Dean Reggie Gilyard is really behind us for the long run.
This summer, the founders of Health 2 Humanity, along with others looking to make a positive impact on the world, will be traveling to several orphanages and villages in and around Kenya. We have less than three months left before we depart on this life-changing trip, which we know will be one of many to come.
During our stay in Kenya, we will be dropping school supplies, sporting equipment, books and other necessities to orphanages and villages all around Kenya. However, our main and most important task will be to build and set up our mini factory and begin teaching crucial business practices to the locals there. From this point, several people will learn how to run their own business and hopefully teach others and keep the process going. This will all be done in an effort to combat the cycle of poverty and improve the quality of life for those who live there.
If you would like to support us on this trip, you can make a tax-deductible donation by contacting me, John Cefalu at cefalu@health2humanity.org. One hundred percent of anything you donate will be used to better the lives of the children in Kenya.
