Name: Tyler Weitzman

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration ’25; Marketing Emphasis

Position: Resident Advisor

Company: Chapman University

What excites you about this position?

What excites me the most about the Resident Advisor position is being able to positively affect other Chapman students by being a resource for my residents and insuring a safe, positive, and inclusive living environment.

How did you strategize landing this position?

I strategized landing the RA position by getting involved in Residence Life & First-Year Experience (RLFYE) through the Pralle-Sodaro Community Council. This allowed me to build strong relationships with individuals already working for RLFYE and made sure that the department knew who I was. I then wrote a well rounded cover letter that showed RLFYE I understand what a RA does and further explained why I would be a great asset to the team. I reached out to the Argyros Career Advancement Center and worked on preparing for my interview through multiple mock interviews. Following the mock interviews, I worked on my Elevator Pitch and wrote down questions that I anticipated being asked and practiced my responses by covering all parts of the STAR Method. When it was time for my interview, I knew I had given it my all and prepared as much as I possibly could.

Do you have any advice for anyone looking for an internship or job in this market?

I would advise students who are thinking about applying for the RA position to get involved in Community Council in their community to build connections with individuals who work for RLFYE. Also, don’t be afraid to reach out to the Argyros Career Advancement Center for help, that’s why they are there!
