Student Spotlight: Arshak Karakhanian ’25 "No matter how studious or career-oriented you are, the best memories always come from the people you are around."
September 24, 2024
Arshak Karakhanian, a Business Administration major with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship and a minor in Mathematics, is set to graduate in Spring 2025. Throughout his time at Chapman University, Arshak has experienced both academic and personal growth, making his college journey a memorable one.
Academic Excellence and Faculty Impact
For Arshak, the academic environment at Chapman has been both rewarding and challenging. He acknowledges that the rigorous courses pushed him to excel in his studies, while the professors played a pivotal role in shaping his educational experience. “I believe it’s not the courses that change students but the professors,” Arshak shared. “I was lucky to have met extraordinary professors like Dr. Veselina Vracheva and Dr. Peter Jipsen, who completely altered my understanding of management and problem-solving.” Their mentorship has had a lasting impact on his approach to leadership and tackling challenges.
Arshak emphasizes that the professors at Argyros College come with invaluable real-world experience. He credits their guidance with helping him develop crucial skills, such as team management and collaborative work, primarily through course-long projects that mirror real-life business scenarios.
Clubs, Connections, and Hockey
Chapman’s clubs became a big part of Arshak’s social life right from the start. Even before setting foot on campus, he was already a member of the Chapman Hockey Club! His involvement didn’t stop there—he’s still active in several student organizations. One that stands out? The CEO Club. “The CEO Club events feel like high-level business podcasts,” he says. “The guest speakers always have great stories and really care about the audience.” From networking to fun activities, Arshak has found a place where his entrepreneurial dreams thrive.
Arshak is also the Co-President of the Russian Speaking Club at Chapman. “Being part of the Russian Speaking Club has been an incredible way to stay connected to my cultural roots and share that with others on campus,” he shared. Leading this club has allowed him to create a space for students to connect through language, culture, and shared experiences.
Location and Networking Opportunities
One of the major benefits of attending Chapman for Arshak is its proximity to Los Angeles, a major business hub. This location provides students with the opportunity to connect with industry professionals and build networks that can significantly impact their careers. “Chapman’s location near a business hub like LA offers an extraordinary number of skilled professionals to network with,” Arshak mentioned. For an aspiring entrepreneur like him, being close to such a dynamic business environment is invaluable for personal and professional growth.
Looking Ahead
As Arshak looks toward the future, his long-term goal is clear—he aims to start a business that will have a substantial impact on the world. This ambitious vision drives him to continuously improve and refine his skills. Reflecting on his journey, Arshak acknowledges that time management has been one of his greatest challenges, but he has made significant progress since his freshman year. “Time management is a never-ending process, and I’ll likely carry this challenge into my professional career. But trying different techniques and practicing has gotten me this far,” he shared.
Arshak’s advice to fellow students is to plan their careers carefully and not rush into internships or jobs just because others are doing so. “Don’t get a job or internship just because everyone around you is getting one,” he advised. “Plan your career yourself and decide if you truly need it.”
A Memorable College Journey
Despite the academic and career-focused aspects of his time at Chapman, Arshak’s favorite memories are rooted in the friendships he has made along the way. “No matter how studious or career-oriented you are, the best memories always come from the people you are around,” he said. The connections he has formed with his friends and classmates are what make his college experience truly special.
When Arshak isn’t studying or networking, you might find him playing the piano—a passion that allows him to unwind and get creative. “Playing the piano has been a great way to balance my busy life,” he says. Music, much like his love for entrepreneurship, challenges him to think outside the box and hone his discipline.
As Arshak prepares for graduation and the next chapter of his life, he remains grateful for the opportunities and experiences Chapman University has provided him.
