Re-imagining the Classroom: Unlocking Potential with the Science of Learning
Considering the events of the past several years, it’s not surprising that many educators feel frustrated, burned out, and uncertain of what the future holds. And in many ways, the changing landscape of higher education has contributed to this frustration. If you feel this way, you’re not alone. But knowledge is power, and gaining an understanding of how learning works can help us unlock new ways to approach teaching that offer realistic solutions and a path forward.
Join us as we explore answers to the following questions and reframe our thinking about teaching and learning:
- What makes it so challenging for students to apply what they have learned?
- Why do students continue to apply the same ineffective study strategies?
- What leads some students to think they know more than they actually do?
- Why are students not more engaged by the material I find so interesting?
Understanding the importance of prior knowledge to the varied ways that students organize, practice, transfer, and apply new knowledge provides a framework for us to interrogate common practices and reimagine classrooms for the future.
