Photographer Carol Inez Charney uses natural distortions from the everyday world to create her photography. While her works are photographs, they reach back to the modernist movement in her finished product. Based in San Francisco, California Charney is represented in galleries in Los Angeles, Seattle and New York.

Charney studied painting at UC Santa Cruz then went on to get her master’s in photography at San Jose State University. With a knowledge of both painting and photography, Charney is able to approach her work in an aesthetic way, knowing what she is looking for.
The two photographs in Chapman’s Escalette Collection come from the artist’s series “Interior Landscape.” Using moisture on glass, the artist takes close up photographs of water and its natural surroundings. In both Man -1 and Hmb -1 we are looking at a closeup of droplets of water on glass which creates an abstract, painterly quality.
