Thanksgiving is among our favorite holidays here at Chapman’s Collections Department. Whether we are traveling, spending time with friends and family, or relaxing at home by ourselves, it is always great to take time to reflect upon all the things for which we are thankful. Here are just a few of the exciting things cooking here at Chapman University that we are thankful for:

The Hilbert Collection of California Art

Thanks to the generosity of Mark and Janet Hilbert, Chapman University will be host to this incredible collection of early-mid 20th century oils, watercolors, sketches and prints made by artists right here in California. Although these scenes refer to imagery unique to the industrial, cultural and artistic development of California, the collection has a universal appeal that we know will attract people from around the world.

The Rinker Health Science Campus

The new Harry and Diane Rinker Health Science Campus in Irvine features several beautiful pieces from the Escalette Collection. Unveiled at the building’s grand opening back in October, the pieces on display include new collection acquisitions by Kelsey Brookes and Elizabeth Turk, a recent donation by Chapman’s own David Kiddie, as well as existing acquisitions by Peter Kogler, and Josef Albers.

The Albert Schweitzer Collection

A few weeks ago, the Wilkinson College of Arts & Humanities hosted the Albert Schweitzer Exhibition Dedication to celebrate the newly renovated exhibition on the second floor of Argyros Forum. The exhibition includes original artifacts, books, and memorabilia celebrating the life of Dr. Schweitzer and his role as a guiding spirit for the intellectual and ethical pursuits of Chapman University. The exhibition will remain on display permanently, but we encourage everyone who has some extra free time this week to come see what’s new!

There are many, many more exciting things to be thankful for around here, but we don’t want to keep you, so go ahead and get another plate of stuffing, and have a very happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at the Chapman University Collections!
