Chapman University is pleased to introduce the inaugural Dance Masters at Chapman weekend, February 16 – 18, 2018.

The weekend begins with an intimate public performance on Friday, February 16, 2018 with legendary dancers Dwight Rhoden, Ido Tadmor, and Clifford Williams at 7 p.m. in the Chapman Auditorium, Memorial Hall. The performance includes highlights of Dwight Rhoden’s repertory in a lecture-demonstration format, a solo to live music performed by Ido Tadmor, and a solo danced by Clifford Williams. The evening concludes with an artists’ talk-back with the audience.  Admission is FREE.

Weekend workshops with the master dancers are scheduled for Saturday, February 17 and Sunday, February 18, and are open to intermediate to advanced junior and senior high school dancers, industry professionals, and Chapman students, alumni, faculty, and staff.  Admission to the workshops is FREE but requires pre-registration.

  • Saturday, February 17: 12 – 4:30 p.m. (registration check-in 11:30 a.m.)
  • Sunday, February 18: 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Online reservations for the weekend workshops ends 2/13/2018. Tickets will not be offered at the door for any of the workshops.

 

About the Artists:

Dwight Rhoden

Dwight Rhoden is the founding Artistic Director/resident choreographer of Complexions Contemporary Ballet Company, a leading dance company known for its multicultural, cutting-edge, and courageous programming. His work has been presented on five continents in over 20 countries, appearing in prestigious theatres across the globe, including The Joyce Theatre, The Marinsky Theater, BAM, and Cairo Opera House, to name a few. Rhoden was a principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and has earned distinction from The New York Times as “one of the most sought-out choreographers of the day.”

 

Ido TadmorIdo Tadmor is an internationally acclaimed dancer-choreographer who has performed with legendary companies such as Bat Dor, Batsheva, Lar Luvovitch, and the Bolshoi Ballet. He has served as Israel’s “Ambassador of Dance” for more than three decades, touring to Cyprus, Paris, Germany, Croatia, Brazil, California, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Poland, Korea, Angola, Poland, Senegal, and Lithuania. He was recently named a Presidential Fellow at Chapman University.

 


Clifford Williams
 has performed with renowned companies such as Dance Theatre of Harlem, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, and Compañia Nacional De Danza under the direction of Nacho Duato. He has partnered with Misty Copeland, and served as assistant director and choreographer for the television show So You Think You Can Dance. Mr. Williams is certified in teaching the official Contemporary Ballet technique of Complexions and has recently been appointed as Artist-in-Residence for the Complexions Contemporary Ballet Company.
