Paulo Freire Democratic Project Welcomes Dr. Henry Giroux

The Paulo Freire Democratic Project is pleased to announce a series of upcoming events honoring world renowned educator, Dr. Henry Giroux. Dr. Giroux is Professor of English and Cultural Studies and Global TV Network Chair in Communications at McMaster University, Canada. One of the pioneers of critical pedagogy, Dr. Giroux was regarded by the late Paulo Freire as one of the most important educational thinkers in the world. Dr. Giroux will be a guest of Chapman University on Friday April 17 at the AERA annual convention in Chicago and will be participating in a number of events, including several award ceremonies and a public lecture, on Chapman campus May 19-24. Please join Chapman University and the Paulo Freire Democratic Project as they present Dr. Henry Giroux, Ph.D with the 2015 The Paulo Freire Democratic Project Social Justice Award. Henry Giroux is an American and Canadian scholar and cultural critic. One of the founding theorists of critical pedagogy in the United States, he is best known for his pioneering work in public pedagogy, cultural studies, youth studies, higher education, media studies, and critical theory. In 2002, Routledge named Giroux as one of the top fifty educational thinkers of the modern period.
A high-school social studies teacher in Barrington, Rhode Island, for six years, Giroux has held positions at Boston University, Miami University, and Penn State University. In 2005, Giroux began serving as the Global TV Network Chair in English and Cultural Studies at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. He has published more than 50 books and 300+ academic articles throughout education and cultural studies literature.
