“This is my element. I’ve been in journalism since I was 15,” said Madiha Shahabuddin, the newly elected editor-in-chief of the
Chapman Law Review
. She was the editor-in-chief of the student-run magazine
Alkalmia
(meaning “the word” in Arabic) at the University of California, Irvine as well as the Walnut High School newspaper
The Hoofprint
.

Before Madiha applied for the position, she “was deterred by the work load and the feeling of everyone depending on you.” But when the current
Chapman Law Review
Editor-in-Chief, Nancy Sandoval, reminded her that the current board had faith in her, she was convinced to apply. “I just felt humbled and grateful for the executive boards’ faith and confidence in me,” Madiha said when she learned she was elected as the new editor-in-chief. She said when they called her with the news she made a speech thanking them for the faith they had in her and the second year class taking on their new roles.
