Professor Denis Binder was quoted in an article in Honolulu Advertiser, entitled, “State ended safety inspections before Hawaii dam collapsed.” The article discusses memos and e-mails issued by the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources three months before the fatal collapse of the Kaloko Dam on Kaua’i. The documents reveal a state suspension of all dam safety inspections and emergency flood responses and later attempts to conceal the suspension. “The state is basically saying it is abrogating all of its legal duties,” says Professor Binder. “That’s a hell of a smoking gun.” Read articles …
