The International Tax Review recently recognized Fowler School of Law alumna Tara Ferris (JD ’07) as part of the 2013 Global Tax 50 most influential people in tax policy, recognizing her role in the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA).  The list is compiled based upon individuals and organizations “who have has the greatest influence on tax policy, practice, and administration in the last 12 months,” according to the Review’s website.

Ferris has been the Senior Counsel in the Office of Chief Counsel (International) at the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C. since August 2011. She has been dedicated to ensuring that the FATCA “uncovers all undeclared income that U.S. citizens hold with foreign financial institutions,” according to the Review’s website. She was the principal author of Notice 2013-43 and Notice 2013-69 regarding legislation enforcement and guidance about the foreign financial institutions agreement for participating institutions.
