For the fourth consecutive year, Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law alumni have exceeded the California American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school pass rate.

The statewide pass rate for California ABA accredited law schools on the July 2014 exam was 69%. This represents a significant drop from the 76% pass rate for the July 2013 exam. This also correlates with a steep drop in national scores for the July 2014 exam, which has been attributed to significantly lower overall scores on the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) portion of the test.

Despite the overall decline in California and nationally, the Fowler School of Law alumni who took the July 2014 bar exam passed at a 75% rate – six points ahead of the state average. This positive differential above the California ABA accredited law school pass rate is the school’s highest margin ever, and also represents the fourth straight year in which we beat the state average. We are currently one of only seven schools in California to beat the state average for three straight years.

“This is a remarkable result, due to the hard work of our students, and the fact that we have the best bar preparation course in California—offered for free immediately after graduation. At Fowler, we don’t abandon you after graduation: we stay with you until you have passed the bar,” said Fowler School of Law Dean Tom Campbell.

The swearing-in ceremony for the Fowler Law alumni who passed the bar exam will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 6 p.m. in Memorial Hall on the Chapman University main campus. The ceremony will be followed by a reception in the lobby of the law school’s Kennedy Hall.
