Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law’s Alternative Dispute and Resolution team kicked off the 2019-2020 competitions season a few weeks early, netting double Gold awards at the International Mediation Singapore competition on August 4.

The Fowler School of Law team, comprised of rising 3L students Cam Biedgoly, Zach Cavanagh, and Jay Shaaban, competed in five rounds against 40 teams from 30 universities from around the globe. They finished in the top tier of both the Mediation Advocacy and Mediation segments, winning Gold awards for both categories.

“As proud as I am of the double Gold achievement, I am most proud of the quality of the team’s ambassadorship,” said Professor Nancy Schultz, Director of Competitions and Alternative Dispute Resolution Program at the Fowler School of Law. “They were immensely popular—judges and observers wanted to watch their rounds, teams wanted to go out with them, judges and teams wanted photos with them. They are outstanding human beings.”

International Mediation Singapore is the first-ever international moot competition organized in Singapore that focuses on mediation advocacy and mediation. Organized by the Singapore International Mediation Institute, the event seeks to bring together the best teams from around the world to celebrate a shared passion for mediation.
