We are thrilled to announce that the Leatherby Libraries is a recipient of the inaugural 2024 Library Excellence in Access and Diversity (LEAD) award from Insight Into Diversity MagazineInsight Into Diversity is one of the largest and oldest publications in higher education that focuses on diversity and inclusion.

The LEAD award honors academic libraries’ whose programs and initiatives promote, support, and encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within their campus. Categories considered for this award include research, technology, accessibility, exhibitions, and community outreach.

The Leatherby Libraries was recognized for our dedication to implementing DEI projects and initiatives. The Library’s DEI plan emphasizes the importance of collective action in all our efforts, including partnerships, resources, exhibits, displays, events, collaborations, and other DEI initiatives.

“I am extremely excited to hear about this award, it is a perfect way to start the New Year,” notes Essraa Nawar, the Assistant Dean for Library DEI Initiatives and Development, “As I reflect on the library’s DEI efforts, I must give credit to every member of the Leatherby Libraries team. This award is living evidence of the library’s continuing commitment to creating a climate that strives for inclusive excellence. We continue to look at the latest trends in the industry and respond to students, faculty, and community needs. Diversity is a multidimensional concept, and we continue to look at it daily to raise awareness and reduce obstacles in learning and research.”
