“Healthcare Collaboration of the Year” Awarded to Chapman Program
January 27, 2023
The Greater Irvine Chamber has awarded Chapman/SCAN/Providence PGY-1 Managed Care Residency program the Healthcare Collaboration of the Year Award at the Excellence in Healthcare Gala on January 26, 2023.
Dr. Jelena Lewis, Director of Residency and Fellowship Programs at CUSP, accepted the award alongside Dr. Tri Tran from SCAN Health Plan and Dr. Caroline Vovan from Providence Medical Foundation. “This win is very exciting for us at Chapman, as well as for our collaborators at SCAN and Providence Medical Foundation, as this is the first PGY-1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency program for the three organizations. It is a partnership between an academic institution, a health plan, and a large health system. We are honored to be recognized for this large collaborative effort and we are excited to continue to expand and grow our partnerships!”
Post-graduate training opportunities in pharmacy, like residency and fellowship programs, are among the most critical aspects of defining a pharmacist’s early career path. In 2022, the Chapman/SCAN/Providence PGY-1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency program received an 8-year accreditation from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. The uniquely designed program provides the resident with an opportunity to focus on managed care at a health plan and a large health system. Additional learning experiences include providing direct patient care in an ambulatory care setting and conducting a year-long outcomes-based research project. Upon completion of the program, the resident also earns a teaching certificate from Chapman University.
“Due to the unique structure of the program, the residency provides opportunities to strengthen both a pharmacist’s managed care and ambulatory care skills, ultimately advocating for a more well-rounded pharmacist,” says Heidi Lee, the program’s inaugural resident. “The program is supported by some of the greatest mentors I have met throughout my pharmacy career which is what makes this program so outstanding.” Recognition by the Greater Irvine Chamber for this collaboration is an honor and an indicator of more excellence to come from Chapman Pharmacy.
