Chapman University appoints economist Mark Skousen as a Presidential Fellow
ORANGE, Calif. – Economist Mark Skousen, Ph.D., will join Chapman University’s faculty as a Presidential Fellow starting in January, teaching a course called “Modern Political Economy,” using his book The Making of Modern Economics (ME Sharpe, 2009, 2nd ed.)

Known as the “maverick” of economics for his contrarian and optimistic views, Mark Skousen’s course will focus on policy oriented through the eyes of the distinguished economic thinkers including Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Keynes, Milton Friedman, and others.
A direct descendant of Benjamin Franklin, Skousen recently was named one of the 20 most influential living economists. He earned his Ph. D. in monetary economics at George Washington University in 1977. Since 1980, Skousen has been editor in chief of Forecasts & Strategies, and has authored more than 20 books. His financial bestsellers include “The Complete Guide to Financial Privacy” (Simon & Schuster, 1983), “High Finance on a Low Budget” (Bantam, 1981), co-authored with his wife Jo Ann, “Scrooge Investing” (Little Brown, 1995; McGraw Hill, 1999), and “Investing in One Lesson” (Regnery, 2007). With a Ph.D. in economics and a focus on the principles of free-market capitalism and “Austrian” economics, Skousen is actively involved in free-market and liberty think tanks throughout the world. He frequently speaks and writes articles for organizations such as the Cato Institute, the Foundation for Economic Education, the Libertarian Party, the Council for National Policy and the Mt. Pelerin Society. He is also the producer of FreedomFest, an annual conference billed as the world’s largest gathering of free minds on liberty. Skousen most recently published an article in Forbes touting the Bureau of Economic Analysis’s release of a breakthrough new economic statistic called “Gross Output,” which measures total sales volume at all stages of production, and is the first new economic aggregate since Gross Domestic Product was introduced more than 50 years ago.
