Chapman University to host “Orange County 2040” event exploring what OC will look like in 25 years Event is free and open to the public MEDIA INVITED
Chapman University will host a day-long event featuring leaders in the areas of government, economy, society and infrastructure who will address where Orange County is headed in the next 25 years. Among the featured speakers are former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, President of Five Points Communities Emile Haddad, and former Chapman University President and economist Jim Doti. The event, called
Orange County 2040: What Will We Look Like?
will take place from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Chapman’s campus in Orange on Thursday, February 23.
“This forum brings together thought leaders from various disciplines who will apply their knowledge to not only where they see orange County going in the next 25 years, but where they think Orange County
should
be headed in the next 25 years,” said
Fred Smoller
, Ph.D., associate professor of political science at Chapman University, and the organizer of the event.
Attendees will hear from speakers with deep and diverse backgrounds who will address topics such as how our local governments can evolve, the county’s aging demographic, housing prices, Orange County’s culture as well as the county’s economy and where its strengths and weaknesses are.
“All of our speakers will address the good, the bad, and the ugly of Orange County and talk about what the county is doing well and where we need to focus our attention,” Smoller continued.
One panel of the day is dedicated to Proposition 64 and California’s legalization of marijuana. Additionally, Mark Funkhouser, the current publisher of
Governing Magazine
, will be on hand to discuss OC’s future.
Speakers include economists, artists, authors, reporters, urban development experts and politicians. The event will take place in Argyros Forum Room 209 and is free and open to the public. More information on the event and the full line up of speakers can be found here:
