I’ve been part of the SMC team for over three years now. I don’t just use the word team because we’re a fairly large group of people working together, I use it because we are a group of individuals who truly make an effort to step in and help each other out whatever the task may be. Titles and job descriptions take a back seat here when we are all striving to produce the best results and reach our goals as a department.

Under Strategic Marketing and Communications, you’ll find the creative team, marketing, web, media, events and public relations. Each individual area provides a resource that weaves us altogether. We’ve created a team environment that allows reaching out to each other for assistance and feedback on anything from moving boxes, design ideas, creating events and presentations. Oftentimes, the web team will approach me for help in setting up an event, but that doesn’t mean just booking their room in 25 live. They’re also interested in how I think the event should run, how the set-up should look, and what the best way to reach an audience might be. Sometimes it can be challenging, but motivating and encouraging at the same time.

While working together to get the job done, It’s common for our design team to approach the account executives for creative insight if they’ve hit a mind block. Group coffee breaks and powerwalks play a major role in this office. As our department continues to grow, the energy here stays consistent; efficient, inspiring and always helpful.

“The best teams are made up of a bunch of nobodies who love everybody and serve anybody and don’t care about becoming somebody” – Phil Dooley.
