Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Italian Studies Program presented, The Italian Comedy of Masks on Thursday, November 21, 2013 in the Fish Interfaith Center, Wallace All Faiths Chapel.
The successful event featured Mace Perlman, a classically trained mime and actor. Perlman introduced audiences to the centuries-old, yet always contemporary, theatrical tradition of commedia dell’arte, whose mask-characters captured the imagination of playwrights, composers, painters, and pop culture from Shakespeare to Bugs Bunny and from Mozart to the Marx Brothers. He transformed using masks of Renzo Antonello of Vicenza, Italy and was hailed by D.J.R. Bruckner in The New York Times as “splendid little works of art.”
