Finance students meet Wall Street’s movers and shakers during winter travel course
February 6, 2013
Two dozen students from the Argyros School of Business and Economics (ASBE) at Chapman University enjoyed an informative – if nippy – trip to New York City this winter to meet with some of the top executives and representatives of the Wall Street financial world.
“Walk on Wall Street,” taught by Terry Burnham, associate professor, is one of the travel courses offered during the January interterm as part of the business school’s practice of connecting students with the movers and shakers of the industries in which they will work. Similar travel courses to the Silicon Valley and Brazil were also offered. Joining the Wall Street group for a portion of the trip this year was Reggie Gilyard, the new dean of ASBE.
Such experiences are invaluable, students say.
“It is very rare for companies and executives to take in large groups and spend close to two hours of their time discussing their career paths, career advice, inner-workings of their firm, and most interesting to me, the day-to-day responsibilities of their job. Learning about the daily work of an investment banker focused on mergers and acquisitions is something that simply can’t be taught in the classroom. For us to experience that was a true pleasure,” says Sean Dusselier ’13.
