March 13, 2013
Professor Fadel Lawandy has been selected as the Interim Director of the C. Larry Hoag Center for Real Estate and Finance. A Southern California native, Lawandy earned his B.S./B.A. Finance and International Business from Chapman University in ‘99, and went on to earn his MBA. Alongside his recent appointment, Professor Lawandy also teaches investment courses at ASBE.
As the Director of the Hoag Center, Lawandy will be responsible for implementing its strategic plan as well as managing the Janes Financial Center. Since 2005, the Hoag Center has been providing students opportunities to connect with the business community in Orange County. The Hoag Center offers a variety of programs for students, including certification opportunities, seminar series, the Student Managed Investment Fund, and now more portfolio-managing opportunities through the Janes Financial Center.
Under the Hoag Center umbrella, the Janes Financial Center was established in February 2012 with the support of donations by David A. Janes, Vice Chairman of the Chapman University Board of Trustees, and the returns generated by the Hoag Center’s Student Managed Investment Fund. Featuring 12 Bloomberg terminals, 74 feet of full color LED stock tickers, and an interactive market wall, The Janes Financial Center will function as a classroom space and an open lab for faculty and students. Currently, MBA students and faculty have access to a one –hour instructor led Bloomberg training session in the Janes Financial Center. To find more information regarding session dates and time, please visit the center’s website.
Lawandy envisions the Hoag Center as a “hub” where businesses “come to collaborate on the next generation of technology, the next generation of products, [and] the next generation of services.” He adds that through this “insight for where the job market is heading,” the Hoag Center will allow ASBE to tailor its programs and serve as a “bridge between the business community and the business school.”
Professor Lawandy also enjoys giving back to the community. As a Professional Service Responder for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, he provides expertise and support to the Department. He also serves as Chapter Dad for the Walt Disney Chapter Order of DeMolay, a youth organization that provides a safe environment for boys between the ages 12-21.
