I’m sure many of you come to college with the intention of meeting new friends and building connections with people that will hopefully be in your life forever. I know this because that was my exact intention when I started college. All I wanted to do was meet people, make some friends and leave college knowing that I now have a solid group of friends to tackle life alongside me.

The only thing missing from this was the actual plan of life that I would be “tackling” after college- this life that I had to create for myself. I had no idea what I wanted to do and I realized that if I wanted this dream to come true I needed to take initiative and make it come true. That is when I introduced myself to Chapman’s Office of Career and Professional Development, and here is why you should too.

What is the Office of Career and Professional Development?

Just like our name suggests, we are the one-stop-shop for all things career and professional development. From resume and cover letter appointments to mock interviews to workshops to career fairs, we offer an array of resources to help our students reach their career goals, both during and after college.

Who are we?

At the Office of Career and Professional Development, we have different units that can assist you with different career-related questions. Our office can help you with general career help, industry-specific help, and internship opportunities.

Meet our wonderful staff that can help you with any of these related questions!

We are located at 342 N. Glassell, Orange, CA 92866. Otherwise known as “the little green house next to the Fowler School of Law”.

When should you visit us?

You are welcome to come to the Office of Career and Professional Development whenever you need! Many students visit our office as rising Juniors and Seniors as they prepare for their exits from Chapman into a full-time career, but we actually encourage you to come meet with us early on, during your Freshman year!

It’s never too early to start your professional development. The earlier we start to have these conversations, the easier it is going to be to make your post-Chapman transition.

We are currently open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you would like to come in for quick help on your resumes and cover letters, we currently have drop-in hours on Mondays and Tuesdays for Fall 2021!

Drop-in Hours:

Monday: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m
Tuesday: 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

If you would like to make an appointment with one of our Career Advisors or Peer Career Advisors, schedule an appointment on Handshake!

You can also visit our events that happen throughout the year, such as the Career Fair. This event is one of the largest events that we hold and every year hundreds of students come to meet with employers.

Check out all the events we have planned for Fall 2021 which include but are not limited to:

To learn more about our Virtual Career Fair and how to prepare, read our blog “So You Thought You Were Prepared?”.

Why should you meet with us?

One of the main reasons for going to college is to get a degree and then a full-time job, right? Well, our office is fully dedicated to helping you do just that. Through our Chapman-specific job board, we offer amazing opportunities for both internships and full-time employment AND we help you apply to these same opportunities through resume, cover letter, and interview help.

We also offer career guidance for those that are unsure of what they want to do or if they are planning on doing a career change. Our overall goal is to help all of our students be successful and happy in their careers.

We are also one of the ONLY career offices that will help you FOR LIFE and FOR FREE. No matter where you are in life, our office is here to help you as we are your “Career Connection for Life”.

How can you contact us?

You are able to reach our office by phone, email or by simply walking into our office! If there is a specific unit within our office that you would like to get in touch with, you can email our general email or email that specific department via their Chapman email address.
