Lemon and Palm Traffic Signal Installation Construction commences for traffic signal that will ensure safer and more efficient intersection operation
November 25, 2020
The Lemon Street and Palm Avenue Traffic Signal Installation Project is scheduled to start on Nov. 30, 2020. The installation of a traffic signal will facilitate safe pedestrian crossings by assigning right-of-way to both pedestrians and vehicular traffic.
The new signal operation at the intersection includes a pedestrian scramble. This means all vehicles are stopped to allow pedestrians to safely cross the intersection in any direction including diagonally. This will allow for smoother and more efficient intersection operation.
The installation of the traffic signal features decorative poles consistent with the Old Towne design standard. The installation of traffic signal equipment includes cabinet, controller, service, surveillance camera, emergency vehicle preemption, safety lighting, vehicle and pedestrian signal heads and illuminated LED street name signs. Installment will also include an ADA-compliant sidewalk access ramp, an Audible Pedestrian System and new signing and striping.
The construction will occur from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The project will last approximately 45 calendar days. The schedule may shift due to inclement weather, material supply issues, or other unforeseen circumstances.
Construction activities will take place at the intersection of Lemon Street and Palm Avenue and the immediate vicinity.
Through traffic will be maintained in the northbound and southbound directions at all times. If necessary, partial roadway closure along the eastbound and westbound directions may be provided for public safety and governed by certain field conditions.
We look forward to the timely completion of the project and providing an improved roadway for residents, businesses and visitors. If you have any questions about the project, please contact the City’s Traffic Division at (714) 744-5525.
