At a city council meeting on Nov. 12, the City of Orange approved the installation of a traffic signal at the entrance of the Anderson parking structure along Walnut Avenue. The signal will eventually be synchronized with the signal at Glassell and Walnut. This intersection has experienced significant congestion during peak hours, and the new signal will bring much needed control to help traffic move more efficiently.

Chapman University will finance the cost of the installation, estimated at $1 million.

“This new signal is an investment in our community’s safety and quality of life,” said Alisa Driscoll, vice president of community relations at Chapman. “By improving traffic flow and pedestrian safety, we’re making our streets more accessible and safer for students and residents alike.”

Installation is expected to be completed in 2026. Some closures will take place during off-peak hours to reduce inconvenience for local traffic. Local residents and businesses will be kept informed about any updates, and we appreciate the community’s patience as this important project is completed.
