Giving Back to the Community: Local Food Drives You Can Support This Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, local non-profit organizations such as the Friendly Center, Homeless Intervention Services of OC (HIS-OC), and The Hub OC are collecting food and other donations for families in need throughout the City of Orange this holiday season.

The Friendly Center is hosting its Full Shelves, Full Hearts Food Drive to provide stability, opportunity, and hope to children and families living in poverty. They will accept donations of traditional Thanksgiving items, international pantry staples, and grocery gift cards on Monday, November 23, 2026, at 147 W. Rose Ave, Orange, and 7189 El Dorado Dr. Buena Park. Bags will be distributed on Tuesday, November 24, 2026, as the organization works toward its goal of 1,000 gratitude pledges. For more information or to schedule a drop-off appointment, please visit The Friendly Center website.

Homeless Intervention Services of OC (HIS-OC) is conducting its Thanksgiving Food Drive to provide warm meals to families in need. The organization is collecting non-perishable food items and grocery gift cards from Monday, October 12, through Thursday, November 19, 2026. Drop-offs are accepted Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 1130 N. Citrus St., Orange, and 907 N. Bradford Ave., Placentia. For more information, please email volunteer@his-oc.org.

The Hub OC invites community members to help “set the table” this Thanksgiving through its “Say Yes” holiday campaign, which supports families experiencing hunger and homelessness in Orange. A Thanksgiving breakfast will be held on Thursday, November 26, and the Palmyra Thanksgiving Feast will take place on November 20. Food donations can be dropped off on November 26 between 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. at 517 W. Struck Ave., Orange. The campaign aims to raise $250,000 by December 31, 2026. To donate, volunteer, or find more information, please visit The Hub OC website.

The holidays are meant to be shared, and every donation makes a difference. Whether you can give a few cans or a gift card, your contributions help make Thanksgiving a little warmer for someone in the Orange community.
