Chapman University
Orange, Calif.
Among filmmakers in California, Chapman is one of the little secrets, a campus a long highway drive from the West L.A. mansions of movie legends that produces some of the most talented people in the business. Among its 5,700 students are 1,200 who study at the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. Whatever movie people do, Dodge teaches. There are degrees in film production, screenwriting, digital arts, producing, and screen acting. Director John Badham (Saturday Night Fever) heads the directing program. Academy Award winner David Ward (The Sting) leads the screenwriting classes. There is a 12-camera motion-capture stage, a foley stage, soundstages equipped with motorized De Sisti lighting pods, and more. Students are given a camera their first day of class, and that's only the beginning.
