The Toronto Film Festival may be starting in Canada this week, but a more important festival for short films is happening here in LA., the L.A. Shorts Festival!  Many of our student films will be playing this year.  Read on for more info!

Now in its 16th year, the LA Shorts Fest runs from Sept. 6 – 13 at the Laemmle NoHo 7 theaters in North Hollywood. This festival is Academy-accredited, so if a film wins one of the qualifying awards at this festival, it will be eligible for Oscar nomination.

Dodge College has 11 student films screening in the festival this week:

  •  Bollywood Invasion (Sabina Shamdasani)
  • Boom Box Kids (Taylor Gledhill)
  • Election Day (Zach Wechter)
  • Expo (Joe Sill)
  • Falling Up (RJ Collins)
  • Homecoming (Gursimran Sandhu)
  • Light Me Up! (Derek Dolechek and Ryan Walton)
  • Shoot the Moon (Alexander Gaeta)
  • Titans of Newark (Mike Marino)
  • Water on Mars (Chase Smith)
  • We Two Have Wandered (Jim Westrick).

For individual screening times, check the website at www.lashortsfest.com

Good luck to all of these films and here’s hoping that at least one of them wins Best Drama, Best Comedy, Best Animation, Best Experimental, or Best of the Fest.
