Thanksgiving Movies To Watch This Weekend
November 25, 2015
It’s that time of year again when everyone is getting ready for the holiday season and gearing up to go home for the holidays.
But wait! We still have to get through Thanksgiving first! It’s time to stuff our faces full of turkey, cranberry sauce, potatoes, and much, much more. After you’re done having your fill, and you’re doped up on tryptophan, one of the best things to do is sit around the television and watch a movie, just like the Pilgrims used to do. And what better movies to watch then one based around this very holiday!
Here is a list of a few films that take place, or feature, Thanksgiving in some way. Why not have a movie marathon and come back to Dodge full of Thanksgiving movie knowledge!
Garfield’s Thanksgiving
Who doesn’t love that orange cat? Originally based on the comic strip, this 1989 animated television special features Jon, haplessly trying to figure out how to cook a Thanksgiving dinner, and Garfield suffering from being put on a diet…and not being able to eat said dinner.
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
You can’t ever go wrong with a Peanuts special, can you? Though this originally aired in 1973, it still plays every year on ABC, AND it won an Emmy. Plus, how can you not laugh every time Lucy pulls the football away?
You’ve Got Mail
This classic 1998 romantic comedy may not center around Thanksgiving, but it features it. Plus, Hanks and Ryan are the ultimate romantic comedy duo.
Addams Family Values
The revisionist history sequence from Camp Chippewa, where the Native Americans sack and burn down the village, is hilarious. Every. Single Time.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
John Candy. Steve Martin. Does anything else need to be said, really?
Son in Law
The Weasel may not be a big star anymore, but Pauly Shore knocked it out of the park when he pretends to be someone’s fiancé when he visits her in South Dakota for Thanksgiving.
The Big Chill
This comedy-drama hybrid is all about friendship. A friendsgiving, if you will.
Dutch
This oft-forgotten film was written by John Hughes and features Ed O’Neill picking up his girlfriend’s bratty son on their way home to Thanksgiving
The Doors
Yes, the biopic about the infamous band DOES feature a sequence about Jim Morrison’s very odd Thanksgiving.
Thankskilling
A cult classic to be sure, this film will definitely make you laugh, cringe, and scream all at the same time.
Rocky
Adrian just wants a nice, quiet Thanksgiving dinner…but then he brother brings home Rocky. And thus starts one of the most beautiful love stories (and great boxing flicks) of all time.
Grindhouse
Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s throwback to grindhouse films features a great, fictional trailer by director Eli Roth about a movie we’d all like to see actually happen.
