The Eleventh Annual Conference Features Seven Distinguished Women Sharing their Experiences in Hollywood
ORANGE, Calif. (April 8 2010) — Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts proudly presents the Eleventh Annual Women in Focus Conference on Friday, April 30, 2010, at the Paul and Daranne Folino Theater in Marion Knott Studios at the University. The panel is designed to encourage dialogue between emerging and established women in the entertainment industry. This year’s conference highlights the television industry and features an afternoon of activities, including panel discussions with leading women in the field, as well as a scholarship presentation and networking mixer. This conference is open to the public.
“It’s so important for students who are passionate about the entertainment business to understand how the development process in television differs from the process for theatrical motion pictures and where the opportunities in television lie in the future,” says Dean Bob Bassett. “Fostering a conversation between accomplished women in television and our students supports Dodge College’s goal of helping our graduates understand ‘the business of the business.’”
Top female directors, producers, and writers, who have created some of the most note-worthy television series, share their experiences in Hollywood with the students in attendance. This year’s panel features Emmy award-winning writer and producer Anne Beatts (Saturday Night Live, Square Pegs, A Different World), television series developer Kim Fleary (Everybody Hates Chris, Home Improvement, The Drew Carey Show), award-winning writer and producer Felicia Henderson (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Moesha, Soul Food: The Series), producer and developer Danica Krislovich (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Rock N Jock Basketball, Rock N Jock Softball), director Lesli Linka Glatter (Weeds, House M.D., The Mentalist, Freaks and Geeks, Twin Peaks), and director and producer Lee Shallat-Chemel (Gilmore Girls, Murphy Brown, Family Ties), and producer Jessica Borsiczky (FlashForward). Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, will serve as moderator for the panel.
The conference commences with the first panel session, “Career Paths” (1:30 – 2:45 PM), where participants will screen clips from their work, and discuss what it takes to break into the industry, building the relationships necessary for success, and obstacles they have faced throughout their careers. During the second session, “Creating the Vision” (3:00 – 4:15 PM), panelists explore ways of solving cinematic challenges through writing, and creating memorable screen characters. The conference concludes with a formal mixer beginning at 4:30 PM.
