From Bollywood to Hollywood:
A SCREENING OF KAPOOR’S GANDHI, MY FATHER
WITH DISCUSSION OF INDIAN CINEMA

The Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University hosts an evening with actor and producer Anil Kapoor in the Folino Theater at Marion Knott Studios of Dodge College on April 24 at 6:30 PM. Coinciding with the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, this special event is the first English-language screening in the U.S. of the motion picture Gandhi, My Father presented by Anil Kapoor Film Company in association with Eros Entertainment. An audience discussion with the artist, led by Dodge College Dean Bob Bassett follows the screening.

In discussing the motivation to put together this event, Dean Bassett noted that "..the growing influence of Indian cinema is seen in the power and reach of the films produced in India and also in the international appeal of its stars, such as the wonderful performance of Anil Kapoor in the Academy Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire. Thus we are privileged to bring Mr. Kapoor to Chapman to share his insights on the state of Indian cinema today and to show his film, Gandhi, My Father, which offers a completely new perspective on one of the heroes of our time."

Gandhi, My Father marks Mr. Kapoor’s first venture into film production, although he has appeared in more than 100 Bollywood films. This internationally critically acclaimed film explores the tumultuous relationship between the Indian leader and his eldest son, Harilal. It tells the personal story of Gandhi’s complicated relationship with his family and the life-long struggle of his son to win Gandhi’s affection and attention.

The event is presented by Dodge College and co-sponsored by Dr. Pradip Shukla, director of Chapman’s Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics at the Argyros School of Business and Economics, and the Chapman University School of Law, which offers a joint JD/MFA in Film and Television Production degree.

Following the presentation of Gandhi, My Father, Dean Bob Bassett leads an audience Q&A session with Anil Kapoor discussing his work in Indian cinema and how Mr. Kapoor sees the relationship between Bollywood and Hollywood.

This event is free to the public with RSVP. To reserve a seat or learn more, please call 714-997-6765. For more information or to RSVP online, visit http://ftv.chapman.edu/news/anilkapoor.cfm
