Club Doc Presents a Free Community Cinema Screening of HALF THE SKY
September 21, 2012
PBS SoCal, Chapman University’s Dodge College and Student and Campus Life with Club Doc Present a Free Community Cinema Screening of HALF THE SKY: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide on Monday, Sept. 24 @ 6:30 p.m. in Sandhu Residents Building, Conference Room D.
Based on the best-selling book by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, this special screening will preview one of six stories featured from the PBS mini-series.
Examining the issue of sex trafficking in Cambodia, where 30 percent of prostitutes are children, the story centers on Meg Ryan and Nicholas Kristof meeting Somaly Mam, who herself was sold into slavery as a young girl and is now a world-renowned leader in the anti-trafficking struggle. A portion of the screening features a daring raid on a brothel that keeps underage girls as sex slaves.
Discussion to follow.
Free screening, first come, first served.
