EDITOR’S NOTE: Sometimes, a story comes along that tugs at your heart strings a bit. This is one of those stories.

Alex Yonks (BA/Film Production ’16) and her team are not only raising money for their film, but also giving back to a cause that means a lot to them. Yonks is directing A Taylor Story, starring Emma Fuhrmann. Morgan Yuvienco (BA/Creative Producing ’16) is the social media manager for the film. Yonks sent along the following about the film, and it’s a great story that will definitely leave you wanting to help.

Giving back has always been something that is important to me. With
A Taylor Story
, I have a rare opportunity to make the world a better place, both through the story and through awareness and donations.

A Taylor Story
is about a compassionate fifteen-year-old girl who is battling cancer. On a family horseback ride, her parents notify her that her chemo has stopped working and that she must decide whether or not she wants to go through with an experimental trial that has a low success rate. She goes out with her two best friends on Halloween against her parents’ wishes for a night to remember. Throughout a series of harmless shenanigans, Taylor is reminded of what it truly feels like to be alive.

While films have a big price tag, so does battling diseases such as cancer. That is why we’re asking for donations. Our goal is to raise $30,000, with half of the money raised by our campaign going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A contribution to our production ensures we put more of the money we raise towards St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

We’re a group of film students at Chapman University with a love for the magic of storytelling and the growing desire to make an impact on the world. I’m a native Texan, and a young female filmmaker who has a passion for telling simple human stories and capturing little moments in life that can often lead to discovering who one is. As a female filmmaker and writer, I feel compelled to make strong female characters that can serve as role models for younger girls.

This project is extraordinarily special to me. I’ve known the characters in this story for quite some time. To be able to see them in person and share them with the world for the first time is both incredibly nerve wracking and the greatest feeling in the world. I’m a passionate person but this story no doubt sits at the top of the list. I’m so excited to make this movie and on behalf of myself and our entire team of
