Attallah College’s Dr. Whitney McIntyre Miller, Associate Professor, is one of the distinguished recipients of the 2024 Valerie Scudder Award at Chapman University. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding achievement in teaching, scholarly and creative activity, and service to the university. Recipients are selected by a university-wide faculty review panel for their exceptional contributions.

The Valerie Scudder Award, the first award of merit bestowed upon faculty members by Chapman University, was established around 1980. It was created when trustee Valerie Scudder, a returning adult student to Chapman College, expressed her desire to honor faculty excellence to the university administrators.

Dr. McIntyre Miller’s recognition comes after a sabbatical year in 2023 dedicated to advancing her work on integral peace leadership. Her integral peace leadership framework is embraced by changemakers in more than 50 countries globally. Eight years after its introduction, Dr. McIntyre Miller continues to refine the framework through her research and teaching at Chapman’s Attallah College of Educational Studies, one of the few U.S. institutions where leadership studies and peace studies intersect. Her efforts have significantly contributed to transforming the nascent field of peace leadership from visionary concepts to actionable strategies for dismantling entrenched systems.
