Meet Dr. Hector Camarillo Abad, one of our GCI PostDocs! Dr. Abad completed his undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. in Cholula, Puebla, Mexico, at Universidad de las Américas Puebla. He spent 12 years there completing his education. Dr. Abad is now utilizing all of the knowledge he gained while obtaining his degrees, into his research on human-computer interactions with a focus on the signals from the movement of a person.

Currently, Dr. Abad is working on his research here at Chapman, where he is able to combine his love for science and his love for dance by using sensors to see if this technology can be used to actually teach dance! Dr. Abad is building off of his previous research, where he used similar sensors to track salsa steps, which were then classified into an intelligence system to figure out exactly which salsa steps were being performed.

Dr. Abad has been with GCI for about a year and a half and has loved every moment. He loves having the ability to teach and continue his research while collaborating with others. Dr. Abad’s favorite part about being involved in GCI is the amazing community of PostDocs the GCI creates.
