Students, faculty, staff and guests from the community came together on May 12th at the Keck Center for Science and Engineering to celebrate projects completed by students participating in the university’s Grand Challenges Initiative. It is the program’s fifth end-of-year showcase.

The program recognized six outstanding student projects, including the Arthur Flint Prize awarded to the most outstanding project. Outstanding projects included:

3D Brace Creating a Customizable Multi-Material 3D Printed Foot Brace, which was presented by Brandon Lee, Mattheos Drivas, Mo Lynch, and Proud Kitnitchiva.

Finally: Smart Energy for a Smart Home, which was presented by Karla Carmona, Mia Lee, Nathan Miller, Samuel Navias, and Willie Sine.

Using Satellites to Improve Water Management, which was presented by Kellianne Bogart, Ryan Joshi, Christabel Naddour, and Sally van Riper.

The Proliferation Problem, which was presented by Alondra Burgos, Abby Caine, and Hatte Hamilton.

ECOSTeam

This year’s Arthur Flint Prize, the highest honor awarded to a team, was given to Probiotic Cleaners to Combat the Rise of Superbugs, which was presented by Joshua Abuyog, Jamie Chin, Mallory Fujiwara, Stephanie Hoang.

Guest judges for the event included Dr. Emily Burt, Jeremy Forsythe, Corey McCrea ’21, Dr. Nicole Wagner, and Monroe Roush ’21.
