Moot Court Team Competes in Nationals
April 3, 2008
After winning the regional competition in Las Vegas last month, the moot court team of Katia Benthale, Rob Webster, and Matt Wechter competed in the national finals of the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition in Chicago. This competition is the largest and most prestigious in the country and nearly 180 teams competed in regions throughout the nation. Chapman was one of only a couple of schools in the country who had a team in the national finals for the second consecutive year. The team advanced past the first day of competition, outlasting ten other schools in the national finals. Though the team narrowly lost in an elimination round by less than two points, the results put Chapman as one of this year’s top fifteen moot court teams in the country! Special thanks to one of last year’s regional champions and alumni, Marcus Garrett, for accompanying the team to Chicago and helping with logistics and coaching. In addition, Chapman Law successfully defended its title at the California Bar Environmental Negotiation Competition this past weekend. The second-year team of Katie Henggeler and Alex Hanson added to their recent hardware from the mediation competition by winning the negotiation competition as well. This is the third time in the past six years a Chapman Law team has won this competition.
