Professor Lawrence Rosenthal was quoted in an article in the Los Angeles Times entitled, “Testifying in his own corruption trial would be a huge gamble for Michael Carona.” As the title infers, the article is about whether or not OC Sheriff Michael Carona should testify. Professor Rosenthal stated, “By far the worst gamble for the defense is putting the defendant on the stand because the minute you put him on the stand, you lose the benefit of the reasonable doubt standard.” He says “there are dozens of places where reasonable doubt can creep in during a trial.” He further stated, “”Once the jury thinks that defendant has looked them in the eye and lied, they convict.” Read article…
