Professor Larry Rosenthal was quoted in an article in the Los Angeles Times entitled, “L.A. to seek to recover $5 million from street gang.” The article discusses the judicial approval of a civil judgment against the 5th and Hill gang. Professor Rosenthal expresses skepticism as to how much the civil judgment would actually hurt gang activity. “Usually you spend more time and money getting the judgment than it is actually worth.” Professor Rosenthal goes on to state that, “fighting gangs . . . is such a political currency . . . that public officials are always wanting to get a part of the action.” Read article…
