Journal of Criminal Justice’s Symposium Gets Praise
August 30, 2009
The Journal of Criminal Justice’s symposium on “Specialty Courts in Criminal Justice: Challenges and Opportunities” was the subject of a Los Angeles Daily Journal article entitled, “All Pros, No Cons for Innovative Specialty Courts at Symposium.” The symposium explored the unique challenges and opportunities of “specialty courts” such as drug courts, DUI courts, mental health courts, and domestic violence courts. These courts are designed to address not only the criminal charges but also the underlying risk factors that contribute to the cycle of offending. According to the article, the symposium discussion mostly approved of the specialty courts but also discussed some suggestions for improvement.
