At the National Sports Law Negotiation Competition in San Diego on September 29-30, Chapman Law’s Alternative Dispute Resolution teams earned fourth and sixth places out of 40 teams from 28 schools. Clay O’Neal/Andrew Mase and Amanda Singer/Kate Schwartz were part of a five-way tie for fourth place after the preliminary rounds. Clay and Andrew won the tie-breaker and made it into the final round.

Other schools competing included Harvard, Berkeley, UCLA, UCI, Notre Dame and Marquette. Prominent sports attorney Leigh Steinberg spoke at the awards banquet and former Major League Baseball star Dave Winfield was one of the final round judges. No other school had two teams in the top 10.

In other recent competition news, two of our law students traveled to Southwestern School of Law for the National Entertainment Law Negotiation Competition on October 6. Our team of Mary Collins (3L) and Dayna Richards (3L) tied for sixth place out of 24 teams. This outcome is particularly noteworthy because they were late entrants to the competition after another team dropped out. With no prior competition experience, Mary and Dayna worked extremely hard for the past two weeks to catch up and were highly competitive.
