April 7, 2026
The spring semester is a busy and exciting time for Fowler School of Law faculty as we unveil our unique faculty publication, Jurist, a snapshot of our faculty’s exceptional scholarship and a glimpse into the life of the law school. The Spring 2026 edition features insightful scholarship from Professor Lan Cao, with her op-ed, “From Property to Personhood: Why Nature Needs a Voice in Law,” a timely look at how law is evolving around the world to include natural resources like ecosystems based on her forthcoming article in the William and Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review. Professor Henry Noyes pens an article tackling the thorny issue of the gerrymandering of the Electoral College in the wake of Rucho v. Common Cause, grounded in his forthcoming article in the Marquette Law Review. This year, Professor Nahal Kazemi took a deep dive into the foreign agents Registration Act (FARA), exploring its virtues and limitations in her editorial piece, “In our FARA era: Modernizing the Forgeign Agents Registration Act,” based on her article “Starving the Beast: A New Vetting Model to Prevent Corruption in International Security Sector Assistance,” in the Harvard National Security Journal. Fowler School of Law Interim Dean Ken Stahl tackles the housing crisis and land use policy of local government, a summary of his forthcoming article in the Iowa Law Review, while Professor Abigail Patthoff takes a hard look at the adoption of artificial intelligence within the legal profession in “When AI Reads Your Brief, What Story Does it Tell?” based on her forthcoming article in Legal Communication & Rhetoric JALWD.
We also feature profiles on Chapman Alumni, special school events like SCOTUS in Focus, an annual review of Supreme Court decisions, as well as new faculty profiles. This year, we include a special feature on Chapman’s competitive student advocacy program and its iconic director, Professor John Bishop. Under Bishop’s leadership, the Chapman program has continued its upward trajectory and is currently ranked #27 in the nation in the 2026 US News Trial Advocacy Specialty Rankings, and #2 in the 2025 ABA Competitions Cup.
