Learn How to Publish for Free During Open Access Week! Introducing an Open Access Online Workshop on SOARS and Read-and-Publish Agreements
October 20, 2023
The Leatherby Libraries is gearing up to celebrate Open Access Week, an annual week-long event promoting free and open access to online academic resources, including published academic journals. This year, Open Access Week is from October 23 to October 29, 2023.
The Leatherby Libraries is pleased to offer various open-access (OA) publishing options, including read-and-publish agreements and the new SOARS (Supporting Open Access Research and Scholarship) faculty research award.
Read-and-publish agreements combine the costs of open-access publishing into the cost of subscription access for academic journals and have helped Chapman authors save over $100,000 on article processing charges (APCs) for OA publishing from January to June 2023. Faculty, staff, and students interested in these agreements can find more information at the Free Open Access Publishing Opportunities LibGuide or attend our OA Workshop, which will outline these agreements and other OA opportunities for the Chapman community.
OA Publishing Options at Chapman: Increase Your Scholarly Reach!
The Leatherby Libraries is hosting an online workshop on Tuesday, October 24, from 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. to inform students, staff, and faculty about OA publishing opportunities available to the Chapman community.
The library’s Chair of Resources & Scholarly Communications, Kristin Laughtin-Dunker, will discuss different opportunities for the Chapman University community to publish in OA journals for free, whether through one of our agreements with commercial publishers like American Chemical Society, Springer, or Wiley, or through the brand new SOARS (Supporting Open Access Research and Scholarship) Program for current, full-time faculty!
