In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month and finals week, the Leatherby Libraries has curated a Guide to Mindfulness book display featuring a selection of books all about mindfulness. Mindfulness practices can help reduce stress and anxiety by using the mind to relax the mind and body. Engaging in mindfulness practices is an excellent form of self-care during high-stress times, such as finals, as it can help students focus on studying without becoming overwhelmed.

A notable selection from our display is Get Some Headspace: How Mindfulness Can Change Your Life In Ten Minutes a Day by Andy Puddicombe. This book helps readers set aside time for stillness in the modern world, which often encourages an over-stimulating lifestyle. The title also outlines daily mindfulness practices, such as focused breathing and meditation, that can help center your mind with minimal time requirements. This book promotes the completion of daily mindfulness exercises to help you relieve stress, have stronger relationships, reduce anxiety, be more productive, and much more!

For more mindfulness resources including free studio-recorded guided meditations, weekly live podcasts, events, and a mindfulness toolkit, we encourage you to visit UCLA Health’s Mindfulness Education Center website.

Another notable title from this display is Mindfulness: A Practical Guide to Awakening by Joseph Goldstein. This book explores the four pillars of mindfulness, including mindfulness of body, feelings, mind, and dhammas (categories of experience), which help individuals look inward to find peace through meditation. Readers will find tools in this practical guide that will help them explore inner calm.
