
Librarian Interviews: Victoria Perez Meet Our New Reference Librarian

The Leatherby Libraries’ Meet the Librarian interview series highlights our wonderful librarians as we introduce them to the Chapman University campus. These interviews inform the community about different areas in the library and the incredible work our librarians accomplish each day. Our new Reference Librarian, Victoria Perez, was kind enough to answer some questions!
- What is your name and title?
My name is Victoria Perez, and I am the Reference Librarian. I am also the Liaison Librarian for the Donna Ford Attallah College of Educational Studies.
- In what department of the Leatherby Libraries do you work?
I work in Research and Instructional Services.
- How long have you been at Chapman University?
I have worked in the Leatherby Libraries for three and a half years.
- What is your job in a nutshell?
As the Reference Librarian, I am available at the Reference Desk to answer questions about research on any topic. As the Education Librarian, I provide library instruction and research support for Chapman University faculty and students at the Donna Ford Attallah College of Educational Studies.
- Have you held any jobs at other universities or libraries?
Previously, I was a Special Collections and Archives Assistant with the Frank Mt. Pleasant Library of Special Collections and Archives on the 4th floor of the Leatherby Libraries. - What are your passions/interests outside of work?
I enjoy reading, baking, playing board games, and spending time outdoors.
- Where did you get your degree?
I obtained an MLIS from San José State University and an MA in History from California State University, Fullerton.
- Where is your hometown?
I live in Orange County.
- What is the last book you read or the last book you loved?
I enjoy reading cookbooks for cooking tips and recipe inspiration! I recently loved What’s for Dessert and Dessert Person, both by Claire Saffitz.
- Any fun facts about yourself?
My great-grandma attended Orange Union High School in the historic buildings that are now part of Chapman University.
- Why is having an Education Librarian important for academic libraries?
Through library instruction and research consultations, an Education Librarian can help faculty and students locate relevant library resources, develop strong information literacy and research skills, and become better equipped as educators to pass on those skills to their future students.
