What You Need to Know about R Programming A Fall Workshop Series for Students, Staff, and Faculty
November 7, 2024
Are you interested in learning how to use and encode data effectively? This November, the Leatherby Libraries is hosting a three-part Intro to R programming workshop series to help you learn more about coding in R. Whether you are a complete beginner or need a refresher, this workshop series will provide participants with fundamental knowledge and hands-on coding skills.
*Each workshop builds off of the information covered in previous sessions. It is recommended to attend all three workshops to gain a complete set of fundamental skills in writing code in R and creating data visualization. If you are unable to make a session, it is recommended that you review the information covered in the previous session to help you understand the topics discussed.
Workshop 1 – Introduction to R Programming
Friday, November 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
- An overview of R syntax, the R Studio interface, data structures in R, importing datasets, and saving your work in R. Participants are encouraged to sign up for a free online Posit Cloud account (https://posit.cloud) before the workshop. Please bring a laptop for this workshop.
Workshop 2 – Intro to Data Wrangling and Basic Statistics in R
Friday, November 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
- Using the tidyverse library, apply indices and functions to subset, merge, and export new data tables. Learn functions for basic statistical data analysis in R, including methods for testing hypotheses. Please bring a laptop for this workshop.
Workshop 3 – Intro to Data Visualization with R and ggplot2
Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
- An introduction to data visualization using essential R graphing functions and the ggplot2 package on the RStudio interface. Please bring a laptop for this workshop.
