June 11, 2026
Satisfy your wanderlust this summer in a fictional world! Travel to new worlds and outer space to experience epic battles between good and evil, classic adventures, societies, and mythical beasts that are waiting to be discovered. Whether you are looking to escape the stress of everyday life or are looking to jump back into reading with the Leatherby Libraries’ Community of Readers, these fantasy and science fiction books will not disappoint.
This summer’s book display focuses on fictional works and their power to spark imagination and provide an escape from reality. Browse the collection of fantastical stories on display and pick up a new book to enjoy this summer with friends, family, or on your own.
One highlight of the display is The Hobbit. For any avid Tolkien fan, you can experience this beloved story in a fresh new way through the graphic novel adaptation illustrated by David Wenzel and adapted by Charles Dixon and Sean Deming! If science fiction is more your style, explore Flight into Space, a collection of stories centered on interplanetary travel and adventure beyond Earth.
Just as there are many ways to travel, this display showcases the many iterations of fantasy and science fiction in novels, series, short stories, graphic novels, and film. No matter your preferred format, these imaginative works are sure to inspire new adventures and spark your imagination.
