Leatherby Libraries staff, Jessica Bower, Laurie Cussalli, and McKenna Koepke, created a great display case promoting Orange County’s Team in this year’s Solar Decathlon Competition. This year’s house, Casa Del Sol, is “an innovative, zero-net-energy house that draws inspiration from the California state flower: the golden poppy.” The competition took place October 8-18, 2015 at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine. The display case features promotional items from the team, information about the competition and pamphlets about green construction and architecture.

“This is a really cool project that our students and faculty have been putting a lot of work into. Students from Chapman have teamed up with students from UCI, Saddleback, and IVC to build and design Casa Del Sol: a house powered by sustainable methods.” -Jessica Bower

The competition ended well for Team OC, winning second place in the Engineering competition and receiving high marks from the judges in the Communications competition. Team OC’s house, “Casa del Sol,” was a visitor favorite, with hundreds of people lining up each day to tour it.
