The Leatherby Libraries had a blast participating in this year’s Homecoming Celebration, and would like to thank everyone that visited Chapman University and attended our many events. Let’s take a look at what we hosted this year:

At a special luncheon for the 50 Year Club, Chapman alumni were able to visit a curated case dedicated to the class of 1967. Included are yearbooks, pictures of homecoming, and more memories as well as prominent books and movies from the graduating year. Located in the Alumni Alcove on the second floor, the case will be up until next year’s homecoming.

Homecoming at the Leatherby Libraries

This year’s Faculty Master Class was Truth or Lies? A Reading and Discussion of Real and Unreal Characters. During two sessions at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Richard Bausch, James P. Blaylock, Douglas R. Dechow, and Anna Leahy read short excerpts from their latest books and discussed the ways writers build and convey characters on the page, whether in novels, short stories, nonfiction, or poetry.

At 3 p.m., visitors gathered for a special screening of A Golden State of Mind, the documentary about Huell Howser’s life and career. Popcorn and refreshments were served as guests watched the film in the Huell Howser Archives and the Center for American War Letters Archives. After the screening, visitors had the opportunity to browse the archives to learn more about Huell Howser.

The Leatherby Libraries hosted their Author Showcase & Book Sale from 4 – 6 p.m. as part of the College Tailgate Zone at the Aitken Arts Plaza by the Musco Center. Homecoming guests browsed hundreds of gently used books, CDs, and other items, and authors Anna Leahy and Douglas R. Dechow were present to discuss their book, Generation Space: A Love Story.

Throughout the day, the Leatherby Libraries held an open house, welcoming visitors to all our library has to offer. Guests learned about library services, and had the opportunity to enjoy a self-guided tour of the displays, collections, and archives housed in the Leatherby Libraries. Staff and librarians were on hand ready to answer questions about the many programs, awards, benefits and services our library offers to Chapman University alumni, faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and community members.

Thank you to all who enjoyed our Homecoming events this year. For an updated calendar on all our future events, please visit our events website. See you next year!
