The Leatherby Libraries is proud to have a continuous, working relationship with Chapman University’s Student Government Association (SGA).

Dean Kevin Ross of the Leatherby Libraries meets with members of the SGA once a semester to discuss potential collaborations and areas where the Leatherby Libraries can better support the Chapman student community. SGA members use this time to propose new projects while recognizing that the library remains an educational hub for students.

Conversations center around the Leatherby Libraries’ physical spaces and outreach of new resources that support undergraduate and graduate students. During a recent SGA meeting with Dean Ross, the sitting SGA President, Rachel Berns’24, noted, “The study rooms are one of the most well-loved resources in the library.” Many students enjoy the Leatherby Libraries study rooms, many of which have been developed into story rooms to create a learning space that offers members of the Chapman community the opportunity to learn about a cultural group or notable person while they study.

During this meeting, the SGA renewed its commitment to funding Coffee at the library during finals. For over ten years, the Leatherby Libraries and SGA have partnered to provide students with coffee, tea, and snacks during the last two weeks of finals. Students can get free treats to fuel their study sessions without leaving the library!

Stay tuned for future collaborations between SGA and the Leatherby Libraries!
